Welcome to Dance Med Spotlight, where we talk about all things dance medicine. Today, our host, Alyssa Arms, is talking with guest Dr. Robert Tsai, PT, DPT.
Our Guest: Rob Tsai, Dance|Prehab
Rob is a physical therapist for dancers, primarily youth and adolescent dancers. He feels fortunate and privileged to say that life has allowed him to explore his own thing, which is DANCE|PREHAB Physical Therapy & Performance. They collaborate with local dance programs in the OC/LA area in physical therapy support, but also in teacher and parent education.
Originally from Taipei, Taiwan, Rob’s entrance into dance began with breakin’ and hip-hop culture and eventually led to studying classical modern dance techniques. He is passionate about creating environments and learning opportunities for dancers to explore and acknowledge their physical capabilities. DANCEPREHAB is an intersection of Rob’s experience as a dance student, professional, healthcare provider, and dance community member.
Our Topic
In Part 2, we talk about:
- how we approach education and building relationships in our dance PT practices
- his popular Sunday sessions for dancers and how he shapes the conversations to be impactful
- and more!
Both reflect on the evolution of their work from providing exercises to focusing more on systems. They explore balancing different environments from clinics to virtual spaces based on their energies. Throughout, Rob and Alyssa emphasize the importance of creating supportive, collaborative relationships with dancers over time.
Whether you’re a dancer, dance educator, healthcare provider or simply interested in dance medicine, don’t miss the rich perspectives offered in this final half of the discussion.
