Breaking the Mold
If you’ve ever participated in an exercise class or routine, whether it’s with a friend, at the gym, or with a trainer, you’ve probably had a variety of experiences.
For most people, doing the exact same routine day after day becomes tedious and boring. Not only that, but keeping the same exact routine has limits to it’s benefit over time. Your body gets used to it, and stops being challenged to make changes. You have probably also noticed that if you work out with a friend or your spouse, one of you starts showing better gains than the other. Even if you share the exact same diet, the exact same activity level throughout the day, and the exact same exercise regimen, it would not be unusual for you both to have different results, because your bodies are different.
So if this idea is true for just regular workouts, why would physical therapy be any different? When it comes to recovering from any injury or pain, you don’t want the cookie-cutter approach for treating it. It is never a one size fits all.
In my experience, I can have 10 patients with the same exact injury come in, but each of them needs something a little bit different. Maybe one person’s muscles are working a little differently, or their perception of pain is different. We may even have some similarities of what needs to be addressed, but each person needs an individualized approach.
Varying the approach not only makes things more individualized, and keeps it more interesting, but it also helps when it comes time for more problem-solving. If we always stick to the “same old thing”, when someone does hit a plateau or isn’t responding in the expected way, it can seem more challenging to figure out what to do next. By keeping treatments customized, each patient has the opportunity to achieve the highest level of success in the way that is best for his or her body.
At Back in Step Physical Therapy, we pride ourselves in the individualized approach, breaking the mold, and staying away from the cookie-cutter concepts.
- We work with you to achieve your personal goals.
- You goal may be as straight-forward as “I don’t want to have pain any more”, or something more deeply meaningful like “I want to be able to play on the floor with my kids again”.
- We want to learn more about you as a unique person.
- Do you like to be challenged? Do you want to learn more about what you can do for yourself at home? Do you need to come in for more frequent sessions for accountability and to help stay on track? What motivates and drives you as we work together to achieve your goals?
- We take your day-to-day life and routine into account.
- If you have flexibility with your schedule, we create a program that keeps you moving throughout the day. If you don’t have much time or opportunity while at work, we create a program that is effective for your morning and/or evening routine. We also help you problem-solve, finding ways to sneak things in throughout your day, even if it’s only for a few minutes at a time.
Our goal is to make you as successful as possible through your journey of recovery. We make it about you and your needs, and customize your treatment plans according to how your body best responds. Contact us today to get your appointment.
