About the Physical Therapist

Doctor of Physical Therapy, Orthopedic Clinical Specialist

Dr. Alyssa is the owner of Back in Step Physical Therapy, P.C.. She is a well-rounded physical therapist, with experience in a variety of settings and diverse patient populations. She specializes in hands-on treatments, including Trigger Point Dry Needling, to help each patient get back to optimal function. She’s a firm believer in teaching her patients how to self-manage when away from the clinic, and educates them so they have a better understanding of what is going on with their bodies.

Alyssa earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Denver, where she majored in Biology, with minors in Chemistry and Spanish. She later attended the University of Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus to receive her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She then obtained her Board Certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist.

Ever the educator, she also holds a Clinical Senior Instructor position at her alma mater, the University of Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus, where she helps to develop future physical therapists.

Alyssa enjoys traveling, scuba diving, and dancing. She is an active national circuit competitor in West Coast Swing, and has over 25 years of training in other styles, including ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop. She particularly enjoys working with her Performing Arts patients, since she has a deep knowledge of the life of a dancer!

Our Philosophy

After being a physical therapist for a few years and working at a couple of different places, I realized that I wasn’t happy with the type of care that I was able to provide within the traditional clinic and insurance model. I would go home every day feeling guilty that I couldn’t do more for my patients, feeling limited for a variety of reasons and seeing that my patients weren’t always making the progress that I knew we were capable of achieving. Quite often, there simply wasn’t enough time available on my schedule. Sometimes insurance wouldn’t pay for it or we didn’t have the right equipment available.

When I decided to start Back in Step PT early in 2017, I wanted to do it differently. Your sessions are no longer limited by time, insurance, or equipment. You receive the type of care that you both need and deserve, and in the way that is most helpful to you. We want to empower you to take control of the situation and your journey to wellness.

  • You know what to expect.
    • Gone are the days of confusing payment systems and surprise bills in the mail. At the end of your initial evaluation, you will receive a recommendation of how many sessions you will need and, together, we’ll come up with a plan to get you back to where you want to be.  We’ll discuss package pricing and you won’t get any additional bills in the mail.
  • You won’t be nickel-and-dimed.
    • There are several basic types of equipment that are often recommended for use in your home exercise program, but are often received with an additional cost at other clinics. At Back in Step PT, those items will be given to you at no additional cost, because I want you to be successful and don’t want something so simple to get in the way of your progress.
    • We also have a variety of other equipment available for purchase, like foam rollers, Theracanes, and more. They are competitively priced and typically available to take home with you that same day so that you can get started with your new exercises right away. You don’t have to find a place that sells it, wait for it to be delivered, or struggle to remember what it was even called.
  • You come first – every time.
    • You are the only patient, each and every time that you come in. We will never double or triple book the schedule, because our focus is to get you better and back to your goals as quickly as possible.
    • The format of each session will depend upon where you are in your recovery process. You will never come in just to perform your home exercise program while someone sits and watches you. The goal is to provide whatever hands-on care you can’t replicate at home and then educate you on what you can do on your own, whether that’s lifestyle modification and stress management, modifying tasks that you do throughout the day, and progressing your home exercises.
    • I am also readily available outside of your appointments times at no additional cost. Many medical offices have systems where you can communicate with your provider, but it can take days or even weeks to get a response. At Back in Step PT, you can call, email or text at any time, and I strive to respond within 24 hours.
    • If you need additional services outside of what I can provide, like a referral to a specialist or a different type of health and wellness provider, I will get you connected with the best. I have a list of a wide variety of providers throughout the metro area. Included in that list are people that I can personally recommend because I have been a client of each of them myself.
